Currently 1 in 60 Australians homes has a household battery, but there is a major opportunity for community batteries to make this green energy technology more accessible to everyone.

DevelopmentWA's East Village project in Fremantle, Western Australia is an example and further evidence of this battery technology being incorporated for the benefit of the surrounding community.

In this project, townhouses and units will utilize this 670 kWh shared battery to reduce their power bills.

“They will be supplying their own electricity from ... solar panels during the day and trading with each other via the battery when the sun is not shining”, said Dr Jemma Green.

As prices of this technology continue to decline, Power Ledger believes there will continue to be opportunities for community batteries in new housing developments.
