Electricity networks worldwide are being reshaped by the increase in renewable energy and battery systems. The EU has been facilitating this transition through its Energy Union Strategy, which includes provisions for setting up Renewable Energy Communities aimed at making household PV more economical. This is creating opportunities for innovative business models and services in the energy sector.

Using Powerledger’s technology solutions, generators and retailers can charge premiums for kWh sold and independently verified as renewable with the verification record stored on blockchain.  Furthermore, Retailers can offer premium energy plans for households which include sought after features such as “choose your energy mix”. Generators can also cut costs by using Powerledger’s solution to instantly generate an audit trail for Guarantees of Origin. PV installers can increase sales by onboarding households into virtual energy communities, where clean energy subsidies are automatically calculated, rebalanced and dispersed using Powerledger energy accounting software.

Energy communities can maximise their eligibility for government subsidies by providing live notifications to increase or decrease generation or self-consumption.
