Commercial sites trading energy P2P
Energy trading across rural locations hundreds of kilometres apart
The project resulted in a total savings of $17,237.29 compared to the current feed-in-tariff model that provides no financial compensation to commercial sites.
Participants saved 20% of their energy costs over six months of the project
Powerledger in partnership with Innovations Central Midlands WA Inc, BSC Solar, Sonnen and CleanTech Energy ran a 6 month pilot project in the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu. The project trialed its energy trading technology at ten sites, one of which included the Shire of Moora recreation centre.
Participants in the project included a local medical centre, a local bakery and cafe, along with other commercial sites and businesses.
The current feed-in-tariff model provides no financial compensation to commercial sites that are feeding excess solar power back into the energy grid. Powerledger’s P2P energy trading platform enabled these sites to monetize their excess solar energy for the first time. With a savings of over $17,000, participants effectively saved 20% of their overall utility costs. Ongoing projects are being considered across Australia with other local government authorities.
